dog scare

Weird thing happened this weekend, Chopper went temporarily blind. Friday night after we got home from the Jones and our weekly dinner with them Chopper was acting weird. You could call him and he would not come. He would bump into things and seem to get lost in the middle of room. Daddy and I got super scared, as this is how it all started with Harley. He went blind in one day then he got nose bleeds finally was the loss of bowel control before we ended his pain. So we freted but there was not much we could do at this point. So we went to bed. Saturday morning I had to help him out the door set him down on the bricks in the back yard and it took him minutes to find the grass to potty. He was not faking it there was something wrong. I let him stay out with the girls all morning and he was the best behaved he has ever been. No growling or barking. Chopper and Alder both sat on my lap all morning while she ate her cereal and he never once made a move for her. If he was not on my lap he was wondering around and would constantly get lost under the table. With the maze of chair and table legs, it was heart breaking to watch. I told the girls that he had gone blind and that they had to be extra nice to him. Rigby broke down crying she missed her puppy already. (if I have not told you she is a little over dramatic about almost everything.) I kept threating Adler that if she teased or hurt him (she pets too hard) that she would be the one getting time out. Then when daddy got up he was smothering Chopper with extra love. The was massaging his face and eyes. Chopper did not like his eyes touched but it seemed to work. Soon after that he seemed to focus a little more and not bump into things. Later he was notably tracking food in the girls or daddy’s hands with his head. He could see again. It was a miracle. I think it was more like Chopper is starting to get glaucoma or something and when daddy rubbed his eyes it displaced the “stuff” and he was about to see again. Daddy things he moved the lens back in place. That is what happened with his bad eye is the lens slipped out of where it should be and that eye became useless. Chopper is already about 6 months older than Harley was when he left us. So Chopper is at the end of a normal Jack Russell life expectancy. I figure him to be a cantankerous old man and will stick around to be 101 (people years.) when his vision came back so did his attitude. He was back to growling and acting like he was going to hurt the girls so back in the cage he went. Daddy had removed the door from it earlier in the day when he was blind but the door went back on when he could see again. Ha. I am sure we are not out of the woods and this will likely to happen again and again until we can’t massage the blockage or realign the lens. As long as he is not in pain we will deal with whatever issue he has. We still love the old coot!!!
